DECATUR FIRST sanctuary•LGBTQ+ 101

COMMON GROUND is a ministry collaborative formed by North Decatur and Decatur First UMC. The second installment of this social justice ministry will be WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9 at 6:30PM in the SANCTUARY of DECATUR FIRST UMC and will focus on LGBTQ+ 101 and discussion of Pride. Ever wanted to know what all the letters mean? Want to learn more about how Pride originated and why it is important to the LGBTQ+ community? Want to learn how you can march in the Atlanta Pride Parade with members of the Greater Decatur Churches on Sunday October 13? Then come join us!

This social justice focused ministry seeks to build a community where all members of God’s diverse family feel safe and welcomed, both inside and outside of the Greater Decatur Churches. OUR MISSION is to educate, connect and serve the diverse family of Greater Decatur Churches, with a focus on at-risk and marginalized communities. We meet the second Wednesday of each month from 6:30-7:30pm at Decatur First UMC.

Our gatherings focus on a different aspect or area of need in the realm of social justice. We will invite speakers of various backgrounds to learn and engage in various topics, such as homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, and how such intersect with our calling to be followers of Jesus Christ.

And, then, the big questions - what do we do and why?
