Michael Black (2020)
Engage Team Chair

Michael Black is the chair of the Engage Committee. He and his family, Melissa, Joshua (9), and Caleb (7), have attended Decatur First since 2013, and he serves as co-chair of Decatur First's Creation Care Committee. He’s an EarthKeeper commissioned by Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, a member of Caretakers of God’s Creation, and an organizing member of the annual United Methodist Caring for Creation Conference (hosted at Decatur First in 2015 and 2016). He also serves as Board Chair of the Environmental Sustainability Board for City of Decatur and a member of the Wellness and Operations Committees for City Schools of Decatur. In his day job, he teaches labs and courses in neuroscience and sustainability in the Neuroscience Institute at Georgia State University. He likes being outdoors, SCUBA diving, reading, and photography. You can see him riding his bike around town and to church with his family. He can be reached at seawater@gsu.edu.
