Young Adults at Decatur First
If you clicked on this tab you may be thinking “What exactly qualifies as a young adult?” and “Does this even apply to me?” In lieu of a better definition for this age group, we’re classifying it as people who are roughly 25 to 35 years old, including those with or without kids. That said, people’s 20s and 30s are so variable. You may be a 23 year old who just finished grad school and is looking for a place to be rooted. Or maybe you’re a 38 year old who is single and can’t quite connect with groups that only contain parents or married people. If you’re in this age group (or are age-group adjacent), we encourage you to keep reading below to see all the different ways you might make meaningful connections here (and have a lot of fun!).
Ways to Get Involved
Yes, they all start with ‘S’ and we’re not sorry about it!
A little something for everyone
Whether you’re looking to dive deep into scripture, give back to the community, or simply make some new friends, there are lots of ways to get involved. Every space is open to those with or without kids - the only place they’re separate is in our monthly dinners, where we have groups specifically tailored to different schedules & stages of life. Come check it out!
STUDY: Weekly Book & Bible studies
Sundays at 9:45-10:45am. Typically meets in room 316.
The Grace of Les Misérables
Sunday, August 17-September 28th (not meeting on Labor Day)
In the six-week study The Grace of Les Misérables, author and pastor Matt Rawle dives into six ideals found in the story—grace, justice, poverty, revolution, love, and hope—each represented by a character in Hugo’s story. As these imperfect and relatable characters interact, we can see how these ideals work together (perhaps even in spite of each other) out in the world.
Social: hang out around atlanta
Whether you love trying local lunch spots, have an outdoorsy streak, can kick it with some board games, have a mind for trivia, or happen to be a passionate pickleball-er, you should come hang out with us!
We’ll advertise a few events per semester, but most are shared in the young adults WhatsApp group. The types of social events we have are driven by the people involved, so if you have ideas, get plugged in.
Find details on how to join the chat below and check out Decatur First UMC’s social media pages for evidence of past fun!
