Rev. Sara Maughan
Interim Children’s Director
Rev. Sara Maughan is a 2018 graduate of the Candler School of Theology and an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church. In her first appointment as a local pastor in Pendergrass, Georgia, she became known as “Pastor Sara,” a name that has lovingly stuck. Since then, she has served at Inman Park UMC, Northside UMC, and Wellroot Family Services.
Sara and her husband, Chris, have lived in the City of Decatur since 2012, where they have raised their three children. Their youngest, Austin, is a freshman at Decatur High School and an active member of the youth ministry at DFUMC. Their older children, Jess and Eli, are both college graduates and happily employed. Jess and Eli grew up at Glenn Memorial UMC under the loving leadership of Rev. Setnor, who served as their youth minister.
Pastor Sara is thrilled about joining DFUMC. Loving children, creating a safe and welcoming environment, and fostering meaningful faith development are hallmarks of her approach to children’s ministry. Her guiding hope and prayer is that every child she ministers to will always remember church as a place where they were safe, loved, and known—and that if they ever feel lost in life, they will seek out church community as a place of refuge.
